Directors' Dialogue 2011


Directors Dialogue is a unique one-day forum created for corporate leaders to benefit from candid discussions of important governance issues, supported by the latest practical research evidence. This highly interactive program allows board leaders to exchange ideas and gain insight into the trends that directly affect their performance as they serve on today's boards.

This year's program, co-chaired by Raj Gupta and Jack Brennan, was titled "Where We Are- Where Are We Going- Lessons from the 2011 Proxy Season. The event was held March 15, 2011 in Philadelphia. The keynote lunch speaker was John (Jack) Krol, Chairman of Delphi Automotive. This session was limited to 30 experienced and active attendees in board governance to provide an effective framework to exchange ideas and allow for discussion in a confidential environment. A welcome dinner for all participants was hosted by KPMG and featured opening remarks by Jonathan Spector the President and CEO of The Conference Board.

2010 Directors Dialogue: Risk- Opportunity or Disaster?


Directors Dialogue is a unique one-day forum created for corporate leaders to benefit from candid discussions of important governance issues, supported by the latest practical research evidence. This highly interactive program allowed board leaders to exchange ideas and gain insight into the trends that directly affect their performance as they serve on today's boards. This year's theme was Risk: Opportunity or Disaster — A Boardroom Dialogue. The event was held March 23, 2010, in Philadelphia. The keynote lunch speaker was Jack Brennan formerly of the Vanguard Group. This session was limited to 25 experienced and active attendees in board governance to provide an effective framework to exchange ideas and allow for discussion in a confidential environment. A dinner for all participants was hosted by Drexel University Interim President C.R. "Chuck" Pennoni who delivered the opening remarks.

The Center for Corporate Governance and the Philadelphia Foundation are hosting the second in a series of Non-Profit Directors' Dialogues among Board members and top executives of prominent regional non-profits, and major regional funders to join in a dialogue addressing the question: how do funders and grantees partner for the common good?

On June 16, 2009, the Center for Corporate Governance and The Philadelphia Foundation hosted a nonprofit Directors' Dialogue among nonprofit board members and funders in the Greater Philadelphia region. This highly interactive program offered a frank, valuable exchange among peers in a confidential environment. The panelists provided insight on the current changes facing nonprofit boards and the leadership trends that directly affect the performance of nonprofit boards and management.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Financial Performance: The "Virtuous Circle" Revisited Program Overview
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has emerged as a priority for business leaders. Companies are regularly confronted by stakeholders about developing a plan to maintain fiscal prosperity while taking care of their employees and environment. Is there a way to develop a shared vision that will benefit society and add value to business? How does a company assess and prioritize what social issues to adopt as part of their corporate strategy? Will these social issues increase long-term shareholder value? What should companies do if the answer is no?

Conference Overview
The Center for Corporate Governance hosted the Third Annual Conference on Corporate Governance and Distinguished Scholar Award Luncheon at the Drexel University LeBow College of Business. The conference featured theoretical and empirical research related to corporate governance.

Keynote Speaker and Honoree:
Steven Neil Kaplan, the Neubauer Family Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance at University of Chicago will receive our award for outstanding contributions to research in corporate governance and present the keynote speech at Friday’s luncheon.
