Undergraduate Readmission and Reinstatement Policy

LeBow College of Business (LeBow) policies supplement and, in some cases, may be more restrictive than Drexel University policy. LeBow encourages all students to familiarize themselves with both College and University ( http://www.drexel.edu/provost/policies/ ) policies.

For students who seek Readmission (who have not registered for any course for more than one academic year):

Undergraduate students previously enrolled at Drexel who have not registered for any course for more than one academic year may apply directly for readmission to one of the LeBow's undergraduate degree programs. The right to grant or deny readmission to any program is at the discretion of authorized staff. Minimum requirements for readmission are as follows:

  • The student was previously accepted into a degree program at Drexel University.
  • The student maintained a 2.00 or greater term and cumulative GPA*.
  • There are no student holds (e.g., financial) that will impede readmission.
  • The student was not dismissed due to academic dishonesty or any misconduct that violates the University's Student Code f Conduct. For details on student conduct, please review the Official Student Handbook.

If readmission is granted, the student will be required to sign an Application for Readmission form before his or her readmission may be processed.

*Any incomplete or unresolved grade will be considered an “F” unless evidence of the filing of a formal “Change of Grade” form or an approved “Drop/Withdraw” can be readily ascertained.

For students who seek Reinstatement (who have been dismissed for academic reasons):

Undergraduate students who have been dismissed from the University for poor scholarship have the right to appeal the decision. Students may appeal by meeting the following requirements:

  • The student is required to contact the LeBow undergraduate advising office to schedule an appointment with the Academic Standing Committee. Students are strongly encouraged to bring with them a written account that explains why they are seeking reinstatement.

    The purpose of this meeting is to determine if the student can successfully complete the remaining curriculum and thus a comprehensive review of the following will contribute to the decision to approve or deny reinstatement:
    • The written account;
    • Past academic performance;
    • Activity while away from the University;
    • Student's future academic and professional goals.

If an appeal is successful, the student will be required to develop a plan of study to ensure academic progress with his or her advisor. Additionally, the student must sign an Authorization for Reinstatement from Academic Dismissal form and may be required to sign an academic agreement before his or her reinstatement may be processed.

Any subsequent academic dismissal action for which the student has not met the agreed upon academic progress goals will result in final dismissal from the College.

Students who have been dismissed and have not been invited to appeal the decision may appeal in writing by sending a letter to:

Mr. Brian Ellis
LeBow College of Business
Drexel University
3141 Chestnut Street, Matheson 012
Philadelphia, PA 19104

Appeals will be considered at the earliest possible opportunity. However, students will not be considered for reinstatement for the term in which they were dismissed from LeBow and will miss at least one term of study. The determinations to approve or deny reinstatement to the College are final.

LeBow College of Business Policy on Accepting Transfer Credits

The Dean, faculty, and administration of Drexel University's LeBow College of Business are working constantly to benefit our students by improving the academic quality of our degrees and enhancing the career advantage gained by our alumni.

After careful review, we have come to the conclusion that allowing LeBow students to transfer credits into their academic records causes more harm than good towards achieving their educational and career goals.

The reasons for this conclusion:

  • Degrees earned from LeBow College include carefully crafted curriculum taught by our esteemed faculty, and students do not gain the full benefit of our degree by attempting these courses in another institution.
  • Students need to complete courses which are pre-requisites for other required courses at Drexel to insure that they are adequately prepared and do not disrupt their learning process.
  • While all of our students work hard to pursue academic honors, those students who transfer credits to Drexel gain an unfair advantage to earn honors over those students who diligently complete all of their course work here.
  • As the LeBow College of Business continuously expands and advances its reputation of excellence among the regional, national, and international business communities, the inclusion of transfer credits within the academic records of its students diminishes the quality of our degrees and adversely impacts the positive perception of our alumni.
  • LeBow College of Business seeks to keep our graduates competitive with those of other highly-ranked business colleges, accredited by the AACSB, that do not accept transfer credits.
  • Students who are approaching their graduating term at Drexel often find the completion of their degree impeded by waiting for credits to transfer.
  • Drexel's quarter terms, necessary for our Co-Op program, is a unique scheduling system which is not easily integrated with semester scheduling systems in other schools.
  • Entering transfer credits into our students' records may cause an adverse and unexpected change in their billing status.
  • Students may earn credit for a required course by completing that class at Drexel with a grade of C-, but receiving such a grade in a similar class at another institution will not be accepted for transfer.

Therefore, effective 200415, the term beginning in Sept. 2004, it shall be the policy of the LeBow College of Business NOT to approve or accept transfer credits from another institution to be applied towards our students' academic records.

  • Students may still enter LeBow College by transferring credits from another school, but after beginning classes at Drexel these students may no longer transfer further credits to their records.

If a student believes that they have a compelling reason to request permission to transfer a course, they may appeal their reasons to the LeBow Undergraduate Advising Center for consideration. The Dean of LeBow College reserves the final decision on granting an exception to this policy.
