Description: Sponsored by Drexel University's LeBow College of Business Corporate and Executive Education Center and College of Engineering.

This seminar will cover two topics in finance (portfolio design and option pricing) and connect them with key engineering tools (convex optimization and stochastic processes). First, we cover the stock portfolio design problem and the risk-reward tradeoff under the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), highlighting connections with convex optimization. Second, we review the time value of money, then discuss arbitrage, forwards, contracts, options, highlighting connections with stochastic processes, and in particular, martingales.

Learning Objectives:
1. What is the stock portfolio design problem, and how do we define risk and reward?
2. How does the stock portfolio design problem connect with convex optimization?
3. What is arbitrage and how does it connect with pricing of financial instruments like stock options?
4. How does option pricing connect with stochastic processes?

Presented by:
