| Description: | "Leadership Challenges/Opportunities During Crisis" Join LeBow College of Business and Corporate and Executive Education for a discussion on the Dow Chemical Company and Rohm and Haas merger with retired Rohm and Haas CEO Raj Gupta. Raj L. Gupta joined Rohm and Haas in 1971 as a financial analyst. He held positions of increasing responsibility during the decade, including a two-year stint as special assistant to the president of the company. In 1979, he began work in Europe, first as financial manager of the U.K. subsidiary, then as strategic planning director for the region, and finally as assistant manager for the company's substantial operations in France. In 1984, Mr. Gupta was named business manager for Ion Exchange Resins in Europe. In 1987, he took on the responsibilities of business director for Plastics in Europe. Two years later, Mr. Gupta became business unit director for the worldwide Plastics Additives business. He was elected a vice president of the company and was named director for the Pacific Region in 1993. Early in 1996, Mr. Gupta became one of six members of the Chairman's Committee and given oversight responsibility for the company's Electronic Materials business group. In December 1998, Mr. Gupta was elected to the Board of Directors and named Vice Chairman in January 1999. He became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on October 1, 1999. Mr. Gupta assumed the additional title of President in early 2005 and held that title until May 2008. Mr. Gupta holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (1967), a M.S. degree in Operations Research from Cornell University (1969), and a M.B.A. in Finance from Drexel University (1972). Chile is widely recognized as a Latin American success story. Sensible macro-economic policies have produced steady growth and rising standards of living for most Chileans. Since 2006 until joining President Michelle Bachelet's Cabinet as Minister of Defense, Mr. Goñi was Ambassador of Chile to Mexico. During 2005 and 2006, he was Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and prior to that he was Ambassador to Italy (2000-2004) and to Sweden (1997-2000). Mr. Goñi was Director of the European Division of the General Office of International Economic Relations (DIRECON) at the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Chief of the Technical Team in charge of the negotiations between Chile and the European Union (1995-1996); and Director of the Chilean Trade (Commercial) Office (PROCHILE) for Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Baltic countries, with headquarters in Stockholm. Furthermore, he also was Executive Director of the Environment National Commission (CONAMA) in Chile. Mr. Goñi was responsible of the South American Office at the Olof Palme Foundation (AIC) in Sweden, as well as Professor and researcher in the field of Economics in Latin America at the University of Stockholm. Mr. Goñi worked at the Direction Nationale des Cooperatives in Algiers, the Forestry Institute in Santiago, as well as at the University of Concepción. Mr. Goñi was also Chile's Representative to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), as well as to the UN World Food Programme, at its head office in Rome. The former Minister of Defense has published two books: “Olof Palme and Latin America”, Editorial Azul, Montevideo (1986), and “Desarrollo con Equidad”, Editorial Nueva Sociedad, Caracas (1988), and several short stories and articles. He is currently writing a novel and a selection of short stories. Mr. Goñi is member of the Party for Democracy of Chile (Partido por la Democracia - PPD). |

The conference will be held on April 9th featuring theoretical and empirical research related to corporate governance. 2010 marks the 3rd year that we have held this conference. Andrei Shleifer will receive our award for outstanding contributions to research in corporate governance and present the keynote speech at Friday's luncheon. Previous recipients were Michael Jensen and Rene Stulz. The deadline for submission of papers is November 15, 2009. Details about submissions are included below. Paper Submission Instructions (Submission deadline November 15, 2009): Five papers will be selected for the program. (Last year we had over 100 submissions!) This year's submission process contains two steps: 1. Send a PDF version of your paper to CorpGov@Drexel.edu. Please note, your paper MUST be saved with the following file name ‘All Authors' Last Names_Paper Title.pdf' (Submitting Author's name should be in all caps i.e. Cai-WALKLING_Shareholders Say on Pay.pdf). 2. Once your paper is submitted you will need to register your paper online at www.lebow.drexel.edu/Event/AcademicConferenceSubmissions. There is a $25 submission fee. To be eligible for submission, the paper must still be at a revisable stage (i.e. neither published nor so close to publication that significant changes are not feasible) by the date of the conference. We expect to notify authors about acceptances by approximately February 1, 2010. The $25 submission fee only applies to those who are submitting papers for consideration. Earning her Bachelor's and Masters Degrees from Antioch University, Amoore catapulted from a career in nursing, to supervisor of a hospital program, and VP and COO of a social service organization. In 1996 Amoore started her own company, which today consists of three divisions under the parent corporation, The Amoore Group (TAG). The divisions of TAG provide diverse services, such as: PR/ marketing, government relations, health care consulting, job creation, education, workplace diversity, and early intervention/allied health services. An active participant in shaping her community, Amoore was the first African American elected to the Upper Merion School District, where she served as the board's vice president for four years. In 1992, she was elected to Pennsylvania's Republican State Committee and became its deputy chair in 1996. She made history again in 2004 when she became the first female and African American to chair a Pennsylvania delegation to the Republican National Convention. Based upon experience, we recommend a team consist of 3 - 4 students. The competition is open to all graduate school business students and MS finance degrees at participating universities, whether they are full-time, part-time or executive MBAs. January 2010, 6-8 pm: For the second year, ACG will host a workshop for registered teams on Mastering a Winning Presentation. Topics to be covered include: presentation skills (oral & written), valuation skills, private company financial metrics, and common mistakes, as well as time for Q&A. Hosted by ACG Cup sponsor KPMG, 1601 Market Street. February: Release of Case Study & Round 1 / On-Campus Round While the exact nature of the case will not be revealed ahead of time, the case will be a classic buy side investment banking scenario. Each team will analyze and present their recommendations and supporting rationale for a complex investment case that requires corporate strategy, finance and valuation skills. ACG will utilize a Virtual Data Room for the release of the case. All registered team members will receive log in and password information to the Merrill DataSite. Teams will have 2 weeks to prepare for the case in advance of the Round 1 Competition. School representatives will communicate with your team, as necessary, throughout this process and be available to answer questions (other than related to the case itself). Specific logistics for on campus rounds will be communicated by your respective school contact. Questions should be directed to those individuals on the School Contact. Judges will include faculty and/or industry professionals using a set of criteria provided by ACG for evaluating the presentations. Evaluation criteria will be provided upon the release of the business case. Early April 2010. Round 2 / Finals Teams will compete head-to-head with the winners from the other regional MBA schools for a total of $25,000 in prize money. Sponsoring firm KPMG will be the host site for Finals. Presentations have traditionally been held in the late afternoon starting at 3:00 pm. Further details to be circulated to participating teams. Thursday, April 15. | Description: | Registration Deadline: December 4, 2009 Please have your team members assigned for this competitin and handed to Kamina Richardson by November 30, 2009 The 2010 George Washington MBA Case Competition Held each spring this case competition beings together MBA students from local, national, and international business schools to analyze a current situation facing a nonprofit organization and to present solutions that draw on the assets of the organization. One 4-member team only. Prize Amount: $3,000 •Registration opens November 16, 2009 •Registration form due December 4, 2009 •Team information due January 11, 2010 •Competition held March 19-20, 2010 in Washington, D.C. [link] Eligibility Teams from an AACSB accredited MBA program are eligible to compete. AACSB accreditation is only required for domestic universities. One team per university may participate. Registration Application Registration for the 2010 GW MBA CASE Competition will open November 16, 2009. All schools interested in participating must fill out and return our registration application by December 4, 2009. All selected and waitlist schools will be notified on December 7, 2009. The registration fee of $2500 must be received from all selected schools by December 18, 2009. Registration Fee The registration fee of $2500 is for a four-member team and their advisor. It is payable by check or money order (in US dollars) to The George Washington University. Please mail all payments to: Attn: International MBA Case Competition GW School of Business Duquès Hall, Suite 550 2201 G Street, NW Washington, DC 20052 The registration fee covers hotel rooms for 4 team members (2 double rooms) and 1 advisor (1 single room) for Friday and Saturday nights. This fee also covers the welcome reception on Friday; breakfast, lunch, and reception on Saturday; and all competition materials. Schools are allowed one alternate team member. The alternate fee is $500 and is due by January 11, 2010. This alternate fee does not cover the additional hotel room that would be required.
