It is with great sadness that Drexel University's LeBow College of Business mourns the unexpected death of our colleague, Dr. Susumu "Sam" Kurokawa, assistant professor of management.
Dr. Kurokawa joined Drexel University in 2001 and was a beloved professor, researcher, coach, mentor and friend. As a revered member of LeBow's faculty, he made significant research contributions in innovation, entrepreneurship and technology. His work was respected by colleagues around the globe.
Dr. Kurokawa was born in Himeji, Japan, and obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Kobe University. He received his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management and served as associate professor of management of technology at Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering before joining LeBow College in 2001.
In 2002 Dr. Kurokawa was honored by the Association for Japanese Business Studies for a paper he co-authored, "Global R&D Activities of Japanese MNCs in the U.S.: From Information Flow and Knowledge Management Perspectives."
A second-degree black-belt, Dr. Kurokawa was the driving force behind Drexel's Judo Club. He had a variety of interests outside academia including amateur radio, classical guitar and a variety of martial arts.
This is a tragic loss for LeBow College. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Kurokawa's family at this time.
