Ph.D. in Economics

Please be advised that we are NOT accepting applicants for admission in September 2012 because of limited office space available for doctoral students, as we undertake a major construction project. The next application deadline is January 15, 2013, for admission in September 2013.

Welcome to the Ph.D. program in Economics at the LeBow College of Business. We have a focused program which specializes in the following three fields: Industrial Organization, International Economics and Open Economy Macroeconomics.

We are a small department (of 17 tenured/tenure-track faculty members and 13 Ph.D. students) that provides a collegial environment where Ph.D. students can interact with faculty on a daily basis. Most of our faculty are actively involved in the training of our Ph.D. students. Students receive rigorous training on how to conduct high quality independent research and on how to become effective teachers. Our students work as research and teaching assistants under the supervision of a faculty member and after their second year of studies they can teach independently. Moreover, each Ph.D. student gets the opportunity to present his/her research and receive valuable feedback from faculty and fellow students multiple times throughout his/her Ph.D. studies. The department also has one weekly external seminar series where top scholars present their research.

Our faculty has published in academic journals such as: American Economic Review, Canadian Journal of Economics, European Economic Review, Econometrica, Economic Journal, Economic Theory, Energy Journal, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money Credit and Banking, International Journal of Industrial Organization, RAND Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies and Review of International Economics.
