*Business Basics Overview
(This course does not qualify for credits but will prepare the participant to address business concepts covered in the program.)
Delivery: Classroom, 8 hours
Students will learn to deal interactively in two critical areas: 1) planning and shaping the external outreach of a company through marketing, branding, competitive strategy, and innovation and 2) anticipating and responding to major threats, shifts, and forces in the marketplace - including crisis. Students will also analyze key corporate-wide, growth-driving, actions and tactics used today - such as planning, positioning, differentiation and branding, market selection, innovation, competition, crisis management, and the role of the media. The purpose of this short course is to introduce students to broad business topics and show how they relate to the functions of an entire organization.

MODULE 1
FIN 601 - Strategic Financial Management
Delivery: Classroom
Students will develop a strategy for financial decision making to enhance corporate value.  Using a behavioral approach to analysis and planning, students are exposed to key methods for gleaning maximum content from financial statements to determine how past strategies have fared, how current operations are performing and how to realistically forecast future returns.  Past and present financial information is used to assess current operating conditions and formulate an array of future scenarios.  Relying on case study material, this course focuses on the key elements of analysis: operating results, liquidity analysis and capital structure alternatives.

MODULE 2
BUSN 698 - Drug Development & Regulatory Approval
Delivery: Blended (classroom and online)
The course will cover the steps of the drug development process including the management principles for new product introduction, the economics supporting product development and the regulatory requirements for approval. Lectures will cover drug development fundamentals, clinical development plans, management decision-making with milestone identification, regulatory strategy development, the regulatory approval requirements in the U.S. and other major markets and planning for product launch and post-approval marketing stages.  Students will prepare Product Development Schemes for a compound currently identified to be at the preclinical stage. The Schemes, in addition to identification of the required route for approval, will include the identification of resources required for development within a virtual company scenario.

MODULE 3
MGMT 698 - Advanced Concepts in Managed Care
Delivery: Classroom
Students will examine the changing relationships among providers, insurers, regulators and patients in the U.S. health care system.  The course will also provide students with an understanding of managed care operations including risk, disease management and contracts within the context of changing economic and political forces.

MODULE 4
MGMT 698 - Global Operations Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry
