Master of Science in Finance

M.S. in Finance Plan of Study

Apply Online
There is no fee for online applications

LeBow College of Business' M.S. in Finance will put you on the fast track to achieving your next personal and professional goals whether you are seeking career advancement in finance or financial services, or a career change to the field. Many students already working in the financial services industry attend this program seeking the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Others are in corporate positions and wish to expand their understanding of finance to aid in their professional advancement.

Offering a more finance-focused curriculum than the general MBA, classes are administered in the evening and can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students taking four courses per term can complete the program in four academic quarters — one calendar year.

Like the MBA program, the M.S. in Finance can include a Career Integrated Education component, in which the student completes a six-month work assignment with an employer in the finance field, such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, Bristol-Myers Squibb, SEI, or Vanguard.

Admissions

The M.S. in Finance program can begin with any of the four terms (quarters) in the academic year. Applications received and completed two months before the start of any academic quarter can be processed in time for an admission decision. International students: Please note that this does not include time for obtaining a visa. If you will require a visa application, additional time will be needed.

Admission requirements for the M.S. Finance program and the MBA program in the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University are identical. Therefore, an MBA student in good standing can easily switch to the M.S. Finance program and vice versa. Both programs require:

  • A GMAT score
  • An undergraduate transcript
  • Letters of recommendation
  • A TOEFL score for international students

The admission decision is based on test scores and undergraduate GPA, with some consideration given for work experience. Work experience is preferred and will enhance the composite admission score, but is not mandatory. There is no specific minimum score requirement for GMAT and/or TOEFL as admission is based on a composite score. However, the average GMAT for current graduate students is approximately 600 and TOEFL scores usually exceeds 90.

Please contact LeBow College's Graduate Admissions Office directly with any questions concerning required entrance exams (such as the GMAT), evaluation of undergraduate or graduate records (grades, scores, total years and subjects studied, etc.), and any other issues regarding application to the College's M.S. in Finance program.

Financial Aid

Graduate assistantships for teaching or research are offered by each department and by the Dean's office. Assistantships are granted based on skill rather than by department of study. It is not necessary to be in the M.S. Finance program to be offered an assistantship in the Finance department, nor are M.S. in Finance students limited to the Finance department for assistantship opportunities.
