Camp Business
Drexel University's LeBow College of Business and Commerce Bank present "Camp Business - The Learning Journey," an enriching two-week summer program designed to give southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and New Castle County, Delaware high school students an intensive introduction to collegiate business education, and show them that business is both fun and exciting.
Camp Business classes are conducted at Drexel University and at the Commerce Bank Corporate Training Center in Mt. Laurel, NJ. One hundred high school juniors and seniors per year are selected and represent over 40 different public, private and parochial secondary schools in the tri-state area.
An Innovative Curriculum
Students work closely with outstanding LeBow faculty and staff from Commerce University to examine the disciplines of accounting, marketing, finance and management, and learn the core concepts of business including leadership, professional image, etiquette, team building, and strategy. In addition, they will learn about resources essential to business such as technology, the stock market and The Wall Street Journal.
Through the highly integrated and interactive lessons, students will interact daily with leading area executives and researchers who will offer career guidance, a behind-the-scenes look at Commerce Bank, and provide up-to-the-minute insights regarding current job, business and economic trends.
Concluding the Learning Journey
Camp Business closes with an outstanding opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge about business. Students are required to present to a mock Board of Directors based on their results from the business simulation project.
Business Simulation Presentation
As a team, students present the results of their two week business simulation project before a panel of Commerce Bank executives and LeBow faculty and staff. The members of the top team will each receive a laptop computer from Commerce Bank.
For any students successfully completing this year's Camp Business program, Drexel University will waive the normal $50 application fee should those students apply for admission. Additionally, Drexel is offering $1,000 scholarships to any student who successfully completes Camp Business and enrolls as a full-time undergraduate. Any student completing the Camp Business program will also be given an opportunity to interview at Commerce Bank.
High school students who apply to the program are evaluated on the basis of academic performance, their interest in business and an essay.
