Operations Research

The study of operations research includes the field of optimization, which encompasses a range of mathematical methods to model and optimize the performance of complex systems in business, engineering and medicine.

Some important applications in business include supply chain management, portfolio optimization, game theory, marketing planning and nonlinear regression. This technique is also widely used in electrical engineering for building and distributing sensors, in mechanical engineering for optimal design of aircraft, and in cancer therapy to calibrate and deliver the best individual dosage of radiation for each patient.
