Core Courses

First Year

Depending on the students’ specialization and with the guidance of their PhD coordinator, each student chooses a research track: Behavioral Research or Economics Research.

Behavioral Research Track:

Normally taken by students in Accounting, Marketing and Organization and Strategy.

  • ECON 980: Game Theory
  • STAT 932: Statistics for Behavioral Science
  • MGMT 906: Foundations of Research in Behavioral Science
  • MGMT 907: Research Analysis for Behavioral Science
  • Four or five courses in the specialization area
  • First-year Examination in the summer after the first year

Economics Research Track

Normally taken by students in Finance and Decision Sciences. Some students from the other fields elect to pursue this research track.

  • ECON 902: Mathematical Economics
  • ECON 910: Advanced Microeconomics I
  • ECON 980: Game Theory
  • STAT 932: Statistics for Economics
  • Four or five courses in the specialization area
  • First-year examination in the summer after the first year

Second Year

  • Seminar courses in the specialization area
  • Candidacy examination in the summer after the second year

Third and Fourth Years

  • Doctoral dissertation research
  • Dissertation proposal defense (oral exam)
  • Final dissertation defense (oral exam)
