James Espino ‘10 will discuss both the internal and external threats to a company’s cyber security. Adware and malicious code are something managers need to be aware of, but there is also the threat of an inside job. Learn about what to look for, and the impacts of security breaches and the release of personally identifiable information.

Lunch will be provided.

James Espino is President of Gnostech Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Braxton Science & Technology Group (BSTG), is an engineering and consulting company with expertise in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity engineering, secure software development, cross domain and multi-level secure information sharing, and several other tailored products designed to help organizations secure their data and vital information. Gnostech was founded in 1981 and serves clients in San Diego, CA, the National Capital Region, Colorado Springs, and the Philadelphia greater area.

Prior to joining Gnostech Inc., James served as an officer in the U. S. Coast Guard for over 20 years. His final Coast Guard assignment was Commanding Officer of Military Personnel and Chief of Logistics for Coast Guard Sector New York, the largest operational unit in the Coast Guard. In this capacity, he was responsible for leading the Command’s preparation for and response to the devastation caused by Hurricane SANDY. This included ensuring the response capabilities, facilities, transportation, and communications infrastructure was reconstituted and secured in order to ensure that safety and security operations were maintained during and in the wake of the storm.

Previous to this, James was the Director for the Coast Guard’s Acquisition Project Office located in Moorestown, NJ. In this capacity, he was responsible for executing Coast Guard’s Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) procurement strategy. This $300 million investment provided the National Security Cutter, the HC130-J Long Range Surveillance and the HC-144A Medium Range Surveillance aircrafts, and the Maritime Intelligence Fusion Centers with the most technologically advanced C4ISR systems ever acquired by the Coast Guard.

James’ previous duties included tours aboard U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy. and foreign navy vessels, officer in charge of a drug interdiction and maritime intercept operations team, and director of the office responsible for tactical communications and sensor systems. He has deployed to locations the Middle East as part of the UN Embargo operations after the first Gulf War, Southeast Asia and Latin America to conduct counter-narcotics operations, and the Arctic Region.

James is a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy where he received a BS in Math/Computer Science. He received an MS in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, and received his MBA from Drexel University. James serves on the CustomEd Board of Directors, a South Jersey based nonprofit organization that designs and implements extraordinary programs and experiences that solve challenges in education, training, and outreach for a variety of organizations. He is also on the LeBow EMBA Alumni Board and serves on the Advisory Council for LeBow’s Center for Corporate Reputation Management.
