At age 15, Joshua Batushansky had a plan. He walked into the Riverton, N.J., office of a small insurance and financial services firm, The Barclay Group, and started asking questions. Spending many years as a firm intern and then employee taught Josh the ins and outs of the insurance world, but he determined the company was missing one very important piece - marketing. So after earning his undergraduate degree, he approached Barclay’s leadership with his ideas to promote the firm and has been leading their marketing efforts ever since, helping Barclay market smarter, more targeted and expand the business in the New Jersey footprint to nine offices.
He credits a great deal of his success to his Drexel LeBow MBA. “I had sound business knowledge and experience in finance, economics and the like, but didn’t really have the language to articulate it before I got my MBA,” Josh explains. “The Drexel LeBow MBA gave me the tools and the confidence I needed to be successful.”
While earning his MBA, Josh also earned his Six Sigma Green Belt certification advising a $100M IT consulting company, where he and his team suggested a process change that would save the company $200,000+ per year by streamlining accounting processes. It’s this idea of process improvement, error elimination and a constant drive to better the company and people around him that gave Josh the opportunity to effectively lead; becoming Vice President, Operations & Marketing at the age of 28. “I now guide the ship, not just shift the sails,” he says with a smile. “Before I got my MBA from Drexel, I knew I wanted to be vice president, but it was my experiences and learning at Drexel that gave me the skills for earning it when the opportunity was presented to me.”
