Remark Office - Scantron Processing Software

To effectively process Scantron style exams, you must use the standard Scantron sheet provided under the Supporting Files section of this page. Be sure to print as many of these sheets as you need and do not photocopy them. When printing blank answer sheets, be sure to print them in their actual size (100%). Shrinking the pages to fit can cause inaccuracies when Remark is processing the answer keys.

Preparing the Test

  1. Make sure that all student answer sheets are oriented in the same direction. If the exam has only one answer key, place the answer key on top of the pile of student answer sheets before scanning. If the exam has multiple answer keys, scan all the student answer sheets as one file, then scan each answer key individually.
  2. Using the Canon copier on your floor, scan all of the sheets into one PDF file. To ensure all answers are read correctly regardless of the writing implement used, we recommend scanning the files in black & white, not color. This file can be emailed to you, scanned directly to your departmental Scantron folder or saved to a USB flash drive.
  3. Once the scan is complete, using your computer, move the PDF file to a location on the network where it can be easily found. We recommend using your personal H: drive or your departmental Y: drive.
  4. Open the file and confirm the pages are oriented to LANDSCAPE.
    • If your file is not oriented to LANDSCAPE, open it in Adobe Acrobat.
    • Click the Tools item on the right side of the menu bar.
    • Under the Pages section, use the Rotate button to change the orientation.
