Legal Studies

Neal Orkin, Ph.D., associate professor of legal studies, published the paper “Intellectual Property Issues in Chess Games” in the Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice. He co-authored the article with Alisa Melekhina, who at age 19 is a graduate of Drexel University’s philosophy program and a national chess master, having won numerous honors including a gold medal for the USA in the Women’s World Team Chess Championships held in Ningbo, China, in 2009.

Economics

Shawkat Hammoudeh, Ph.D., professor of economics and international business, and a colleague had the paper “Dynamics of CDS Index Spreads of U.S. Financial Sectors” accepted for publication in Applied Economies.

Hammoudeh and a colleague had the paper “Asymmetric Convergence in U.S. Financial Credit Default Swap Sector Index Markets” accepted for publication in Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance. Hammoudeh had presented this paper at the 86th Western Economic Association International Conference, held in San Diego, Calif. At that conference, he also organized and chaired the session “Credit Market Risks.”

Hammoudeh and colleagues had the paper “Asymmetric Convergence and Risk Shift in the TED Spreads” accepted for publication in North American Journal of Economics and Finance.

Hammoudeh also participated in the Madrid International Conference on "Risk Modeling and Management" (RMM2011) held at the Real Centro Universitario (RCU) Escorial - María Cristina, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, in Madrid, Spain. There, he presented the paper “The Dynamics of BRICS’s Country Risk Ratings and Stock Markets, U.S. Stock Market and Oil Price.”

Hammoudeh and a colleague had the paper ”Synchronization of Economic Shocks Between GCC and U.S., Europe, Japan and Oil Market: Choice of Exchange Rate Regime,” accepted for publication in Contemporary Economic Policy.

Decision Sciences

Ben Lev, Ph.D., head of the decision sciences department, was a member of the Program Committee, organized a stream of several sessions and attended the International Federations of Operations Research Societies (IFORS) 19th Triennial Conference, in Melbourne, Australia, in July.

Marketing

Yanliu Huang, Ph.D, assistant professor of marketing, and colleagues recently presented the paper “The Effect of In-Store Travel Distance on Unplanned Purchase With Applications to Store Layout and Mobile Shopping Apps” at a special session of the Association for Consumer Research, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Girish Ramani, Ph.D., assistant professor of marketing, and LeBow marketing Ph.D. candidate Hua Chang, along with another colleague, had the paper “The Dynamics of Fan Sign-ups, Word-of-Mouth, and Sales: Evidence From a Social Networking Website,” accepted for presentation at the American Marketing Association Winter Educators’  Conference, St. Petersburg, upcoming in February 2012. Ramani a colleague also had the paper “The Impact of Social Loyalty and Social Word-of- Mouth on Sales,” accepted for presentation at the same conference.
