How do technology ventures mobilize resources in the venture capital market?
Looking at the venture capital market, researchers traditionally focus on the roles of human and social capital. However, sense-giving (communication) may also be an effective strategy for entrepreneurs to acquire resources and support.
My research looks at getting sponsorship for “breakthrough” ideas and specifically at the way in which the ideas are pitched. Not only must they be expressed in a way that sponsors are familiar with and can understand. But, at the same time sponsors are less interested in ideas that lack novelty. What is critical, is that an entrepreneur with an innovative idea should explain how the idea is different by comparing it with something we are familiar with.
My research provides guidance to entrepreneurial ventures that typically have limited resources and need support from external sources.
