Ed Kwoka’s connection to Drexel goes back over twenty years to when he first enrolled in the College of Engineering. Due to his father’s sudden illness and unexpected passing, he had to withdraw before graduating.

Kwoka took over his family’s business in industrial processing, then later branched out to start ventures of his own. Only after establishing a career in IT consulting, with additional years of experience running a commercial aviation business, did he complete his bachelor’s degree – nearly two decades after first coming to Drexel.

He renewed his Drexel connection, though, when he enrolled in the Executive Master of Business Adminstration (EMBA) program and, after completing his EMBA in spring 2017, he continued this fall in the Executive Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA).

At this stage in his career, Kwoka is focused on expanding his consulting business, taking on new employees and partners to help it reach the next level. “I’m looking to move from working in the small-to-medium business space to working with Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500-level companies, as well as in the government space,” he says.

He feels that the DBA degree, and the name of recognition of Drexel LeBow, will help him make that big leap in his business. “In the next five or ten years, more universities are going to see the value of the DBA and are going to be offering it,” he says.

Kwoka lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and flies to Philadelphia for the DBA program’s in-person residencies, conducted twice per quarter. His recent visits to Philadelphia have prompted him to connect with a former EMBA classmate and to look into a joint venture after years of working in the same field.

After working to achieve his business goals, he says, “I’d like to sail off into the sunset, and then look at giving back through teaching.” Although the LeBow DBA is practitioner-focused, rather than an academic degree, it will help him in the pursuit of that later goal as well.
