The sport, leisure, and recreation industries continue to expand globally, creating more opportunities for future sport managers. This course will provide students with the baseline knowledge necessary for a career in European/international sport management. Through a combination of in-person class meetings and online lessons, including discussion boards and reflection journals, students will learn about fundamental/contemporary issues in European sport management, matters related to governance and management essentials of European/international sport.
The course culminates in an Intensive Course Abroad hosted by the Centre for Law and Economics of Sport (CDES) at the University of Limoges, in France. While in France, students will gain a theoretical and practical understanding of concepts learned throughout the course using a comparative approach delivered by CDES faculty. The trip also includes facility tours and networking opportunities with in both Limoges and Paris, including meetings with French sport management industry officials from the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, Paris-St. Germain, the French Rugby Federation and other organizations as part of supplementing and supporting concepts learned throughout the course.
