Registration for this event has passed.

The Graduate Technical Series is a training series offered to graduate students in the MBA and MS Programs at the LeBow College of Business.

This session will be held virtually via Zoom. The materials and Zoom link will be provided to registered participants a day or two prior to the event.

Tableau is a business intelligence/data visualization software. It’s increasingly used in a variety of industries, including those related to public policy and public administration, like nonprofits and the government, as well as corporations.

The major advantage of Tableau over a program like Excel, which can also make graphs, is that Tableau lets users build graphics that are connected to each other and that users can interact with. The major advantage of Tableau over programming languages is that even without a programming background, you can quickly get up-to-speed and produce useful presentations in Tableau.

Topics will include (but not limited to):

  • Connecting to data
  • Visual analytics
  • Calculations
  • Mapping
  • Dashboards and stories

This two-hour session is intended for those who are new Tableau. No background in data analysis or programming is necessary. We work will real-world data that will be provided before the start of the session.

Prior to the session, students should have an installed and running application of Tableau Desktop (PC or Mac).

Version Requirements: Tableau (2020.3 or higher)

Students can get Tableau for free and find more details at the link below (please do so a few days before the event):
