Please register in advance.
Dr. Muge Capan is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Decision Sciences & MIS Department at LeBow College of Business. Her research interests include data mining and applied analytics with the goal to leverage data to provide systematic solutions to clinical decision-making problems. Her research applications focus on developing decision-making models to represent the uncertainty in health progression and resource utilization.
Dr. Capan pursued her Ph.D. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University. Her industry and research experience to date have addressed the dynamics of physiological deterioration and recovery processes utilizing data mining of large-scale healthcare data, statistical analyses, and Markovian decision models. Key findings identified optimal safety interventions that minimized the time spent in distressed health conditions while taking patient and provider heterogeneity into consideration.
Further, her industry experience allowed her to study implementation aspects of healthcare analytics, e.g., deployment of novel risk-stratification methods to enhance timely care delivery by categorizing and predicting sequential clinical events and designing alert management frameworks to find a balance between the information need and overload.
She enjoys teaching business analytics and statistics classes, and mentoring students.
