Drexel LeBow Alumni Technical Workshop Series: Introduction to Tableau

The Drexel LeBow Alumni Technical Workshop Series is a series of workshops to provide our alumni with technical training on popular applications.

The session is the Introduction to Tableau.

Tableau is a business intelligence/data visualization software. It’s increasingly used in a variety of industries.

The major advantage of using Tableau over a program like Excel, which can also make graphs, is that Tableau lets users build interactive graphics that are connected to each other. The major advantage of Tableau over programming languages is that, even without a programming background, you can quickly get up-to-speed and produce useful presentations.

Topics will include (but are not limited to):

• Connecting to data
• Visual analytics
• Calculations
• Mapping
• Dashboards

This session is intended for those who are new to Tableau. No background in data analysis or programming is necessary. We work will real-world data that will be provided before the start of the session.

The session will run between 8:30 and 10 a.m., and there will be an additional 30 minutes after for a Q&A session.

Prior to the session, participants should have an installed and running application of Tableau Desktop (PC or Mac). The installed version should be 2021.1 or newer.

Tableau does offer a free, 14-day trial of their desktop application, and more information can be found at the link here: https://www.tableau.com/products/trial.

There are also limited licenses available if participants require them. Please email JT Thazhathel at JT365@drexel.edu if a license is needed.

Note: This session will be held virtually via Zoom. The materials and Zoom link will be provided at least a day prior to the event.
