We also examine the extent to which the reduced earnings\, work\nhours\, and wages of these displaced wo rkers can be attributed to\nfactors specific to pre- and post-displacement employers\; that is\, to\nlost employer-specific rents. The analysis is b ased on\nemployer-employee linked panel data from Washington State assembl ed\nfrom 2002–2014 administrative wage and unemployment insurance\nrecor ds.\n\nThree main findings emerge from the empirical work. First\, five ye ars\nafter job loss\, the earnings of these displaced workers were 17\nper cent less than those of comparison groups of nondisplaced workers.\nSecond \, earnings losses within a year of displacement can be explained\nalmost entirely by lost work hours\; however\, five years after\ndisplacement\, t he relative earnings deficit of displaced workers can\nbe attributed rough ly one-half to reduced hourly wages and one half to\nreduced work hours. T hird\, time-invariant characteristics of the\nemployers who rehire displac ed workers appear to account for about\none-fifth of the long-term earning s losses and nearly of the lower\nlong-term hourly wages of these workers. \n DTSTART:20171106T170000Z DTEND:20171106T180000Z LOCATION:Gerri C.
