Census data\, we show that corporate research and\ndevelopment (R&D) inv estment increases employee departures to\nentrepreneurship. We identify a causal effect with changes in federal\nand state tax incentives. High-tech parents drive the effect\, and\nR&D-induced startups are much more likely to be venture capital-backed\nthan the average employee-founded startup. This is the first evidence\nof employee startups as a type of R&D spillove r. New ideas seem to be\nthe primary channel\, though new skills likely al so play a role. R&D\ninvestment appears to lead to new growth options that are located\noutside the firm boundary.\n\nRead more [https://www8.gsb.co lumbia.edu/cbs-directory/detail/tb2707]\nabout Dr. Babina.\n DTSTART:20181102T150000Z DTEND:20181102T163000Z LOCATION:Gerri C.
