 Research\nFellow at the Fox School of Business at Temple University\, obta
 ined\nhis Ph.D. from the City University of New York (Baruch College) in\n
 1991. His research interests are executive compensation\, earnings\nmanage
 ment\, and capital markets. He has written several books on\nexecutive com
 pensation including Executive Compensation: An\nIntroduction to Practice a
 nd Theory\, and an AICPA self study course\,\nAccounting for Stock Options
  and Other Stock-Based Compensation\, he\nhas published articles in academ
 ic journals including The Accounting\nReview\, Journal of Accounting Resea
 rch\, Journal of Accounting and\nEconomics\, Contemporary Accounting Resea
 rch\, Journal of the American\nTaxation Association\, Auditing: A Journal 
 of Practice and Theory\,\nAccounting Horizons\, Journal of Accounting and 
 Public Policy\, Journal\nof Accounting\, Auditing and Finance\, Journal of
  Financial and\nQuantitative Analysis\, Journal of Business Finance & Acco
 unting\, and\nJournal of Corporate Finance\; and practitioner journals inc
 luding the\nJournal of Accountancy. Professor Balsam is also a member of t

 nand Public Policy. He has been widely quoted in the media and has\ngiven 
 expert witness testimony on executive compensation to the United\nStates S
 enate Committee on Finance. Prior to coming to Temple\nUniversity he taugh
 t at Baruch College and the University of\nRochester. Before entering acad
 emia he was a Certified Public\nAccountant working for the international a
 ccounting firm of Ernst &\nYoung.\n
