Previous\nwork (Kraimer\, Seibert\, Wayne\, Liden & Bravo\, 201 1\, JAP\, 96:3\;\nSeibert\, Kraimer\, Holtom\, & Pierotti\, 2013\, JAP\, 9 8:1) has provided\nevidence for the effects of career shocks and perceptio ns of\norganizational support for career development on employee performan ce\,\nturnover and career decision making. The first paper discussed will\ ntest an Image Theory explanation for these relationships. The second\npap er will examine the effects of formal and informal forms of career\ndevelo pment on the level of human and social capital held by\nfirst-line supervi sors and their subsequent leadership effectiveness\nand promotability.
