Xiumei Li – “Research on Firm Boundaries from the\n Knowledge-Based View: A Literature Review”\n\nAbstract\n\nIn this paper\ , I organized the fragmented literature on firm\nboundaries from the knowl edge-based view into a three-layer\nframework—theoretical development -e mpirical findings as the first\nlayer\, knowledge formation- knowledge tra nsfer- knowledge utilization\nas the second layer\, and vertical boundarie s of the firm-horizontal\nboundaries of the firm as the third layer. I rev iewed 36 relevant\npapers in influential management journals. I find that there is not a\nclear boundary of the knowledge-based view\, rather knowle dge-based\nview\, resource-based view\, and organizational capability view are\noften viewed interchangeable. I also observe the uneven development of\nthe three knowledge integration mechanisms\, where knowledge formation \nmechanism is the most highly developed while the knowledge utilization\n mechanism is the least developed\, and there has also been a paucity of\ns tudies that combine the three mechanisms. The absence of a connection\nof diverse theoretical works calls for an integrative knowledge-based\ntheory of the firm.\n\nII. Di Tong – “Entry to hybrid entrepreneurship: the effect of\nindividual aspiration and context”\n\nAbstract\n\nRecently sc holars have proposed a separation of hybrid\nentrepreneurship from entrepr eneurship in general\, arguing that the\nformer may have unique antecedent s\, process\, and consequences that\nwould be masked if lumped together wi th full-immersed self-employment\ninto entrepreneurship (Folta\, Delmar\, & Wennberg\, 2010). By now\, few\nstudies have attempted to address questi ons relating to hybrid\nentrepreneurship: Folta et al. (2010) provided som e preliminary\nanalyses based on real options theory\, while Raffiee and F eng (2014)\nfocused on risk-aversion as a predictive factor. In this study \, I use\nbehavioral theories to examine factors that induce entry decisio n to\nhybrid entrepreneurship\, as well as boundary conditions of their\ne ffect. The findings suggest an overall U-shaped relationship between\nindi vidual aspiration and likelihood of hybrid entry. In addition\, I\nalso fi nd the relationship is reversed (inverted-U shaped) for large\nfirm employ ees\, while for small firm employees it is consistent with\nthe overall pa ttern. The results reveal the context-dependent nature\nof individual aspi ration and its independent and interactive effects\non hybrid entry decisi on.\n DTSTART:20150313T140000Z DTEND:20150313T160000Z LOCATION:Gerri C.
