Tanner Professor of Management at Yale University DESCRIPTION: \n\nAbstract\n\nWe examine the extent to which the gender wage gap stems from\ndual-earner couples jointly choosing where to live. If co uples locate\nin places better suited for the man’s employment than for the\nwoman’s\, the resulting mismatch of women to employers will de-pres s\nwomen’s wages. Examining data from Denmark\, our analyses indicate\n( i) that Danish couples chose locations with higher expected wages for\nthe man than for the woman\, (ii) that the better matching of men in\ncouples to local employers could account for up to 36% of the gender\nwage gap\, and (iii) that the greatest asymmetry in the apparent\nimportance of the m an’s versus the woman’s potential earnings\noccurred among couples wit h pre-school age children and where the male\npartner had parents with une qual earnings (both implicating\ntraditional general roles as a cause).\n DTSTART:20150417T143000Z DTEND:20150417T155000Z LOCATION:Gerri C.
