While navigat ing the uncertainties of life\nin an unfamiliar culture with a new wife an d only $8\, Raj earned a\nM.S. degree in Operations Research from Cornell University in New York\nin 1969. In 1971\, Raj joined Rohm & Haas\, a glob al pioneer developing\ninnovative technologies and solutions for the speci alty materials\nindustry. In October 1999\, after 28 years with the compan y having held\nnumerous positions\, Raj was named Chairman and Chief Execu tive\nOfficer. He was only the third CEO to come from outside the ranks of \nthe founding Haas family\, and the first to have been born outside the\n United States. As CEO\, Raj successfully navigated the intricate and\ncomp lex $15.3 billion acquisition of Rohm & Haas by Dow Chemical\nCompany in 2 009.\n\nToday\, Raj holds a number of public\, private\, and nonprofit boa rd\npositions.
