LeBow Graduate DEI Challenge 2020: Educate, Empower & Engage

The LeBow College of Business is proud to introduce the Graduate Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Challenge. Our theme this year is “Educate, Empower and Engage.” As an extension of our commitment to the value of inclusion, we are highlighting and celebrating the perspectives of our diverse student body. As an institution of higher learning, we promote a free exchange of ideas and strive to foster understanding, respect and opportunity for a better University. This challenge is meant to provide a platform for graduate students to express their unique diversity, equity and inclusion ideologies and to further champion LeBow’s core values.

Guidelines:

Select One (1) of the prompts listed below and develop your response in the form of a 500-700 word written submission OR a 3-5 minute video submission. DEADLINE TO ENTER: AUGUST 11 Winners will be announced during the week of August 17.

To help guide you, here is a brief overview of DEI: Diversity is the presence of differences that may include race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, religious commitment, or political perspective. Equity is promoting justice, impartiality and fairness within the procedures, processes and distribution of resources by institutions or systems. Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcomed.

Prompts:

• What does diversity, equity & inclusion mean to you as an individual?
• What does diversity, equity & inclusion mean to you as a student and/or professional in the workplace?
• How does global inclusivity play a role in the enhancement of the student experience at LeBow?
• Share your personal experience in how diversity and intersections of identity affected the environment you were in. What were the lessons you learned and what would you do differently if placed in such an environment again?
• If you were in a position to enact change, how would you plan to meet the needs of your diverse classmates/coworkers?

Submissions will be judged on creativity, thoughtfulness and professionalism. They must also fulfill the scope of the prompt selected.

The winner of this challenge will be awarded the opportunity to attend one of the below virtual conferences:
