Harvard Professor Michael Jensen, Academic Father of Modern Corporate Governance, Speaks at LeBow

With debate surrounding the 2008 presidential election increasing focused on federal regulation of financial institutions and corporations, Drexel University's LeBow College of Business Center for Corporate Governance will host Dr. Michael C. Jensen, Jesse Isidor Straus Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus, Harvard University, on April 3.

Considered the "Academic Father of Modern Corporate Governance," Dr. Jensen will speak to LeBow College and the Greater Philadelphia business community about corporate integrity and detail how businesses can establish best practices in accountability. Dr. Jensen will also receive the first "Outstanding Leadership in Research in Corporate Governance Award" for his groundbreaking accomplishments in the study of corporate governance.

Dr. Jensen earned his Ph.D. in Economics, Finance and Accounting and his MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. He has been on faculty at the Harvard Business School since 1985. Dr. Jensen, who is a distinguished scholar, has been awarded numerous honorary Doctor of Law degrees from colleges around the world. He has authored more than 90 scientific papers and founded the Journal of Financial Economics and the Social Science Research Network. He has served as consultant and board member to several foundations, corporations and governmental agencies.

Dr. Jensen's presentation precedes the Center for Corporate Governance's first day-long Academic Conference, to be held April 4 at Drexel's Paul Peck Alumni Center. Six working-papers will be presented and discussed at the conference regarding various aspects of corporate governance.
