Moderator: Donna DeCarolis, Ph.D., Associate Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship Education and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. DeCarolis has researched, written and lectured extensively on various aspects of entrepreneurship, technology management and technology commercialization. Her areas of expertise are entrepreneurship and new venture creation, technology commercialization, strategic alliances, and social capital.

Panelists: Steve Heeb, President, CAL, LLC Vice President Business Development, Comcast

Responsible for the management of CAL, the video content protection licensing company formed between Comcast and Motorola to provide secure network technology solutions to the cable television industry. Also, responsible for leading a Comcast business development team for existing and new strategic relationships focusing on the early development of new technologies, creation of the business arrangements and the formation of a technology into a Comcast service that generates revenue. From 1994 to 2005, responsibilities also included leading the Comcast Product Development group for new products and services on the digital video platform including software development, set top box hardware development and new products such as Interactive Programming Guides, Video on Demand, High Definition Television, Digital Video Recorders, Interactive Television and E-Commerce. Prior to Comcast, worked at Raytheon performing engineering and international business roles associated with multiple technology joint ventures which included extensive travel in Japan and China.

As the Chief Architect for Technology Strategies supporting the Northeast Region, Mike is responsible for providing strategic and technical insights to key AT&T clients in helping them identify business solutions that deliver on their company strategies. Mike’s unique background in IT Operations, IT Governance and IT business process positions Mike to assist AT&T clients in leveraging technology to meet business goals and expectations.

Somesh Nigam, PhD SVP and Chief Informatics Officer Independence Blue Cross

Somesh Nigam leads the Informatics Division at Independence Blue Cross (IBC) which delivers actionable information and insights to IBC associates and external stakeholders including members, physicians, provider organizations, consultants, and brokers. Through innovative technology and advanced analytics, Somesh’s team manages and leverages the Enterprise Data Warehouse to provide business intelligence, outcomes research, and reporting services to support functions ranging from care management, wellness, quality improvement and provider incentive programs, and customer service. His team also provides actionable information to Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs) and helps assess their clinical and health economic outcomes. The Informatics Division also provides a wide range of analytics supporting business needs that emerge as health care reform transforms the industry Recently Somesh’s team has been pioneering the use of newly emerging “Big Data” technologies for proactively enhancing Customer Experience using predictive modeling and machine learning-based approaches.
