Abstract:
This study examines whether increased competition among capital seekers impacts demand for financial statement assurance. Using pilot data from start-ups’ campaign filings, I find preliminary evidence that demand for financial statement assurance among smaller start-ups decreases in response to increased competition. My findings contribute to the accounting literature by examining this relationship between competition among capital seekers and the demand for financial statement assurance, which has yet to be explored.
