Uploading Your Course Syllabus to Blackboard

Posting your syllabus to Blackboard is one of the most important steps of the set-up process. The steps below will demonstrate how to add a syllabus to the “Course Syllabus” placeholder in the LeBow Starter template or how to create a syllabus item from scratch.

Step-by-Step

Adding a syllabus to the LeBow Starter Template

  1. Open your course, then navigate to the Course Information (start here) content area
  2. Locate the Course Syllabus content item
  3. Click the down-arrow to the right of the Course Syllabus item name and select Edit
  4. Scroll down to the Attachments heading, then select Browse Local Files
  5. Your computer’s file explorer will appear in a new window. Locate and select your syllabus file, then click Open.
  6. Your new syllabus file will appear under the Attached Files subheading
    • To delete the new syllabus file, select Do not attach
  7. If any older syllabus files are included as attachments, select Mark for Removal to delete them from your course
  8. Review the settings under the Standard Options heading:
    • Set Permit Users to View this Content to Yes to ensure that the item is visible to students
    • Track Number of Views is an optional setting that can provide viewer statistics for the syllabus file when enabled
    • To limit the visibility of your syllabus to a specific date range, use the Display After and Display Until options. If you would like to keep your syllabus open throughout the academic term (recommended), leave these fields blank.
  9. Click Submit to finalize your changes and post the syllabus file to your course

Creating a new syllabus item

  1. If you do not have an existing Course Syllabus item, you can create one by navigating to the course folder where your syllabus should be housed, then selecting Build Content > Item
  2. From the page that appears, enter “Course Syllabus” into the Name field
  3. Scroll down to the Attachments heading, then select Browse Local Files
  4. Your computer’s file explorer will appear in a new window. Locate and select your syllabus file, then click Open
  5. Your new syllabus file will appear under the Attached Files subheading
    • To delete the syllabus file, select Do not attach
  7. Click Submit to finalize your changes and post the syllabus file to your course
