Free Trees Offered to Drexel Alumni Living in Philadelphia

March 12, 2012

Drexel University is partnering with the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation department to offer you a free tree, so you can join with thousands of others to help create a green canopy for our city.

From the start of his administration, Mayor Michael Nutter declared his goal to increase the city's tree canopy, in an effort to become the greenest city in America. To achieve this ambitious goal, the city has increased its own tree planting activities and work with numerous partners under a new tree planting model in which Drexel has an important role to play.

The University is already a leader in promoting environmental sustainability, increasing green spaces, constructing green buildings, a successful recycling program, and energy efficiency, so the decision to partner with the City of Philadelphia on this program was an obvious choice.

Drexel’s continued sponsorship of this program is another step towards our sustainability goals of making a great impact on our campus, and in expanding our environmental outreach to the city and its communities.

To qualify for a free tree you must own property in Philadelphia, have a yard with space to plant a tree, and agree to properly care for the tree.
