On November 30, LeBow undergraduates in the Global Learning Community and Commuter Learning Community combined an annual holiday tradition – the spectacular light show in the Comcast Center lobby – with an inside look at one of Philadelphia’s largest and most innovative employers.

The students’ tour of the Comcast Center, arranged through Undergraduate Student Services, included sweeping city views from the Comcast Center’s upper floors, a look at the company’s history and a Q&A panel with current Drexel co-op students.

Some of the 35 students even got a look at Comcast’s new building – the Comcast Technology Center, now Philadelphia’s tallest building and the tallest in the United States outside of New York or Chicago – across the street.

Timothy Geiger, a first-year finance major, said he found the tour a very valuable experience. “We were able to get a taste for what it’s like to work in the environment of a modern, socially friendly technology company,” he says.

Tony Wu, a first-year business analytics major, enjoyed the exhibition on the company’s history, on display on the 16th floor. “It was so interesting that the company started as such a small thing, and it’s still reinventing itself,” he said.

Mark Cullen, a sophomore member of the Commuter Learning Community majoring in finance, business analytics and technology innovation management, noted that all the students on the panel said that they like Comcast as an employer, citing the work environment and a strong mentorship program.“ “Also, they all said how the managers let you expand your interests by letting you in work in different areas besides the one you are assigned to, so you get a lot of first-hand experience in figuring out what you want to do,” he said.

Though Cullen didn’t apply to Comcast during his first round of co-ops, he said he would definitely apply there in the future as a result of the tour experience.

Dinner at Reading Terminal Market rounded out the students’ afternoon.
