Dan Hayes, CPA, brings over 30 years of experience as an advisor and Chief Financial Officer for companies ranging from start-ups to multibillion-dollar international organizations, bringing a proactive, strategic, and holistic approach to identifying and solving complex business issues. He has worked closely with executives and board members in addressing a variety of financial, regulatory, risk management, transactional and people challenges, all while building and leading regional and national practices within Ernst & Young LLP (EY).

Dan is a member of the Audit, Finance and Loan Committees of the board of directors of The Reinvestment Fund, a $1 Billion Community Development Financial Institution that provides investments and financing to create opportunities for underserved people and neighborhoods.

Dan led the Consumer Compliance practice in the Financial Services Organization of EY, where he advised the largest global financial institutions on some of their most complex, challenging issues. Dan worked closely with bank executives on identifying regulatory and operational risk issues, developing remediate plans to avoid them going forward.

Prior to re-joining EY, Dan was a Senior Director at Treliant Risk Advisors, a Washington based financial services consulting firm. Dan led one of the independent foreclosure reviews, interacting closely with senior officials of the Federal Reserve, FDIC and OCC. He advised several regional banks on the operational changes needed to implement and become compliance with post-financial crisis regulations.

Dan previously served as Senior Managing Director at Griffin Financial, where he built a practice to advise community and regional banks on strategies to address nonperforming loans post-crisis. In 2007, he joined Selene Finance as its first CFO, responsible for establishing and managing all of the financial and regulatory matters for the specialty servicer for Lew Ranieri’s distressed residential debt fund created during the financial crisis.

Dan began his career with EY, where he led several practice areas while advising several the firm’s largest clients on a variety of strategic financial, and operational issues, including tax planning, risk management, process improvement and balance sheet optimization. Dan started his career in the Washington DC area and served a wide array of Fortune 500, financial services and real estate clients.

Dan transferred to Philadelphia and became the area’s Financial Services and Real Estate Leader. Dan led the EY Kenneth Leventhal group which provided audit, tax and consulting services to the real estate industry. Dan was the lead tax advisor on the Liberty Property Trust IPO; one of the first UPREITs created and advised Columbia HCA on a $250 Million spinoff of its medical office building portfolio, the largest transaction of its kind.

He led the national e-commerce efforts for EY, and was a key member of EY’s US Strategy group. Dan also led the East Region Human Capital practice, turning a loss practice profitable while advising clients on the financial impacts, as well as the key SOX controls requirements, for HR related liabilities, as well as human capital issues involved in finance function transformation.

Dan is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Area Board of the American Cancer Society, the Board of Managers for the Ambler YMCA and the session of Grace Presbyterian Church. He has been on the Board of Directors of Legacy Youth Tennis, Children’s Literacy Initiative, Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association, and Germantown Academy.

Dan has been a speaker at ABA Regulatory Conferences and authored several articles on risk management topics. He earned a BS in Accounting from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas, Austin, and has attended the Drexel University Gupta Governance Institute, advocating for improved board governance practices.
