Drexel University’s STEM designated Bachelor of Science in Business and Engineering provides graduates with a cross-disciplinary skill set that helps them serve as a critical link between technical teams and business stakeholders. You’ll complete business courses at the LeBow College of Business, including advanced coursework in quantitative analysis, modeling, technology and innovation, alongside engineering courses in the Nick Howley College of Engineering and Computing, with the option to concentrate on a particular engineering discipline. The coursework enables students to apply quantitative reasoning to business decisions and evaluate technical and business trade-offs in complex environments.

Inside the Business and Engineering Curriculum

The business and engineering major combines business courses at the LeBow College of Business with engineering courses from the College of Engineering and Computing.

Through the coursework, students become proficient in quantitative analysis and modeling for application in business, with a strong emphasis on technology, innovation, and engineering. an Students can pursue a concentration in a specific engineering discipline or select courses across engineering disciplines. Throughout the program, students apply quantitative reasoning to business decisions in technical environments and evaluate tradeoffs in engineering-related projects.

The program’s integration of business education with engineering coursework provides a level of technical fluency that differentiates graduates from traditional business majors, enabling them to contribute effectively in complex, technology-driven environments.

Course Highlights Include
ENGR 1010: Introduction to Engineering Design

This course introduces students to contemporary engineering design processes for solving open-ended problems. Students will engage with human-centered design thinking, iterative design, and collaborative approaches that prepare them for the evolving challenges facing modern engineers. Through hands-on projects spanning multiple engineering disciplines, students will learn to identify stakeholder needs, generate creative solutions, and develop designs that balance technical performance with real-world constraints. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, sustainable design principles, and developing adaptable problem-solving skills.

BSAN 3325: Data-Driven Decision Models

This course equips students to build and apply quantitative models that support managerial decisions under certainty and uncertainty. The course covers linear and integer optimization, network models, nonlinear optimization, decision analysis, Markov processes, and Monte Carlo simulation. Students learn to translate business questions into tractable formulations and evaluate tradeoffs, constraints, and risk. Emphasis is on problem framing, interpretation, and communication rather than mathematical proofs. Work is completed using spreadsheets and analytics software. By the end of the course, students can select appropriate techniques, implement solutions, and clearly explain results to drive data-informed decisions in realistic business contexts.

OSCM 3250: Managing for Operational Excellence

This course examines practices for achieving superior organizational performance through disciplined and structured process improvement. Topics include lean management, Six Sigma, value stream analysis, performance measurement, and methods to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Emphasis is placed on aligning operations with the improvement strategy and developing capabilities required to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer value. Through case studies, simulations, and a team project, students develop the ability to diagnose operational challenges, align processes with strategic goals, and implement sustainable performance improvements. Students will know what’s needed to lead organizations toward operational excellence by understanding the best tools to use in dynamic, competitive environments.

Co-op is just one way to gain real-world experience at LeBow. Many students also expand their experience through consulting courses, case competitions, research projects, international residencies, industry events, alumni mentorship and other hands-on learning opportunities.

Many of these opportunities are made possible through the Dana and David Dornsife Office for Experiential Learning, where students work on real and simulated projects with industry partners. Partners have included organizations such as Unilever, the Philadelphia 76ers, Boeing, PwC, and nonprofit and governmental agencies.

The Business and Engineering Learning Community is an academic learning community open to all first-year Business and Engineering majors.
