Biography
Fred DiCostanzo, EdD, RN, is assistant clinical professor in the Department of Health Administration in the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University. He holds a BS in Health Services Administration, MA in Organization Management, EdD in Educational Leadership and a diploma in nursing.
Dr. DiCostanzo began his career as a registered nurse, gaining clinical experience in medical-surgical, emergency and psychiatric nursing. He has held various leadership positions in healthcare including first line supervisor, financial manager, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Chief Nursing Officer.
For nearly twenty years, Dr. DiCostanzo worked in the healthcare publishing industry for Nursing Spectrum magazine (later Gannett Healthcare Group and Nurse.com). He helped to launch magazines in Philadelphia and Boston, and served as Executive Director of the Philadelphia/Tri-State Edition of Nursing Spectrum. Later, he was promoted to the corporate position of Senior Operations Officer before assuming the role of Executive Vice President of Human Resources.
In 2005, Dr. DiCostanzo joined Drexel University as an adjunct instructor in the Health Services Administration program; in 2011, he accepted the position of Director of College Operations and Business Development for the College of Nursing and Health Professions and, in 2013 he joined the Department of Health Administration as full time faculty.
Dr. DiCostanzo’s specializations include organizational leadership, management of health services, group dynamics and human resources. His research focuses on the use of live actor simulation to train health administration students in critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict management.
