Biomedical Industry Leader and Investor Mike Pellini, MBA ’92, Will Address the LeBow Class of 2025
To inspire the graduates of the Class of 2025 and to complement student speaker Mosab Mohammadi’s story of embracing uncertainty, the LeBow College of Business welcomes Mike Pellini, MD, a 1992 LeBow MBA graduate, as keynote speaker for the college’s Commencement ceremony on June 12 at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
Pellini is a general partner of S32, a venture capital firm investing at the frontiers of technology, and brings a wealth of experience across the biomedical, pharmaceutical and tech sectors. Prior to joining S32 in 2017, he served as CEO of Foundation Medicine (FMI), a Cambridge, Mass.-based company which transformed the way pharmaceutical companies and physicians evaluate the genomic changes underlying a patient’s cancer, before transitioning to chairman through the close of Roche’s acquisition of FMI in August 2018. Previously, he was president and COO of Clarient, a national leader in molecular pathology, which was acquired by GE Healthcare in 2010.
“I’m honored to address the LeBow Class of 2025, and I hope that this year’s graduates will use what they have learned over the past several years and what I share with them at commencement to go out and make a difference in this complex, challenging and exciting world,” he says.
In addition to his role with S32, Pellini currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Nusano, Singular Genomics (OMIC), Adaptive Biotechnologies (ADPT), Octave BioSciences, TwinStrand Genomics, Exai Bio, Delve Bio, and the American Cancer Society. He previously served on the boards of Thrive Earlier Detection, which was acquired by Exact Sciences in 2021, and Tango Therapeutics. His activities as an investor and board member reflect a breadth of understanding in personalized medicine, with a particular interest and focus on defeating cancer.
In addition to his MBA from Drexel, Mike earned his MD from Jefferson Medical College and a BA from Boston College. A New Jersey native and a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, Mike currently lives in southern California with his wife Melina and children.
