Course Description
BUSNT180 - Exploring Business & Leadership is a two-day introductory course designed to provide incoming LeBow College of Business freshmen a headstart on college by allowing them to explore key business concepts that will prepare them to tackle the course work ahead.
Students will learn the basics of various business topics essential to navigate today’s fast changing business world. Skills essential to success in business include strong leadership and analytical skills combined with the ability to communicate effectively. Students will explore a variety of topics through a case study analysis in an integrated approach to the understanding of different business disciplines.
This course will introduce students to business management, the language of business, strategy, leadership, teamwork, financial analysis, and decision making all while working through an integrated case study on Comcast. Students will also explore current business issues such as innovation, globalization, and technology with “real world” exposure. Students will meet with guest speakers from a variety of business backgrounds who are helping to shape the business world.
Working in teams, students will engage in a business simulation and experience the power and necessity of teamwork. As part of the case study analysis, students will also research, analyze, and recommend strategies. All learning activities will culminate in an oral team presentation at the conclusion of the two-day program.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive 2 credits, which can be used toward a free elective. There is no additional tuition charge. However, there is a $300 charge to cover meals and course materials. Students who have room assignments for the Fall term will move into the residence halls Thursday, September 12 between 8 a.m. - Noon. There is no additional charge for early move-in.
