Stabiliz Orthopaedics Named Among 'Most Promising Life Science Companies'

June 15, 2009

Stabiliz Orthopaedics was named one of the most promising Life Science companies at the 8th Annual Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship Life Science Venture Forum in Houston, Texas, where life science companies showcased their new ventures for an audience of more than 400 attendees, including investors, venture capitalists, industry representatives, business leaders, advisors/mentors, service providers, and entrepreneurs. Stabiliz Orthopaedics was formed by Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business LEAD MBA students, Doug Cerynik M.D, Bradley S. Grossman, Michael Adelizzi and Mark Seltzer.

Created in 2009, Stabiliz Orthopaedics also won the 2009 Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship's Annual Business Incubator Competition, held June 4, 2009, at World Cafe Live. This grand prize entitles the team to $12,000 cash to be used toward funding the start-up, more than $35,000 in in-kind support, and designated space in the Baiada Center Incubator. The company was formed to develop novel enhancements to existing orthopaedic medical devices utilizing innovative concepts, providing a quick path to market. With its initial products under patent protection, Stabiliz Orthopaedics aims to foster greater clinical outcomes for traumatic fracture patients, ultimately reducing additional health care-related costs.

Cynthia A. Doerr, M.D., partner, Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, said, “Stabiliz Orthopaedics is one of the most mature groups of health care-related company presentations that I have reviewed in Houston, and I intend to follow their progress closely.”

The Rice Alliance supports entrepreneurs and early-stage technology ventures in Houston, Texas, through education, collaboration, and research.  Since its inception in 1999, the Rice Alliance has assisted in the launch of over 225 technology companies that have raised more than $500 million in funding.

"Stabiliz Orthopaedics is thrilled to have been chosen to represent Drexel University at this international venture forum," said Douglas L. Cerynik, M.D., President of Stabiliz Orthopaedics. "Being selected as one of the presenting companies is a tremendous honor and we look forward to capitalizing on this incredible opportunity."
