Pennoni to be Honored as Business Leader of the Year

C.R. "Chuck" Pennoni '63, '66, Hon. '92, Drexel trustee and chairman of Pennoni Associates Inc., Consulting Engineers, will receive Drexel's 52nd Business Leader of the Year award at a luncheon on December 1 at noon at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue.

Pennoni Associates Inc. is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm focused on civil infrastructure systems that employs 700 professionals and support staff practicing in the U.S. and internationally. The company has offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Tennessee and several off-shore locations.

Pennoni, a licensed engineer in 11 states, was chairman of the Drexel Board of Trustees from 1997-2003 and served as the University's president and CEO during the 1994-95 academic year. He has served as president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); trustee and president of United Engineering Trustees, Inc.; president of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, and as a member of the United States Council for International Engineering Practice.

Pennoni was a member of the engineering advisory boards of Drexel, Widener University and the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently on the boards of Parke Bank; GCA Services, Inc.; The Granite Group; the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education in Pennsylvania; the World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia; and the Penjerdel Council.

Pennoni is president of the ASCE Foundation. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering and has received numerous professional and civic awards. He was knighted by the President of Italy, has received the A.J. Drexel Paul Award and is a member of The Drexel 100.

Drexel’s Pennoni Honors College was named for Pennoni and his wife Annette in 2003.

The Business Leader of the Year luncheon benefits Drexel's LeBow College of Business. The 2004 event honoring Betsy Z. Cohen, founder, CEO and chair of RAIT Investment Trust and The Bancorp Bank, raised $500,000 for scholarships and program support for LeBow College in Cohen's name.
