Start Spreading the Views: Great Seats and Better Insights as Students Explore Careers with the New York Yankees

A group of LeBow students saw what a difference two hours and about 100 miles can make as they made the trip from 30th Street in Philadelphia to 161st Street in the Bronx, home to the New York Yankees.

“New” Yankee Stadium, opened in 2009, is the team’s home field and headquarters, holding over a century’s worth of trophies, jerseys and other artifacts from baseball history. This site visit, not long after the start of the 2026 Major League Baseball season, highlighted internship opportunities with one of MLB’s most iconic franchises.

During the visit, arranged by LeBow’s Department of Sport Business and Center for Career Readiness, the students had a discussion and Q&A session with Kenneth Cleary, Associate Director of Ticket Sales and Service. Stewart Azor, Manager of Inside Sales, coordinated the trip and also brought in additional staff members to meet with the students and provide networking opportunities.

Shi Fowler, MS sport business ‘25, had previously worked with multiple professional sports franchises in gameday operations before starting her master’s degree at LeBow. She found the site visit provided helpful information for reentering the industry after relocating and working in another field for the past several years.

“I have a background in the production side of things, but I’m open to expanding my horizons,” she says. “Throughout the site visit, I was thinking about how I can bring this knowledge from this experience back to Philadelphia.”

Jordan Harmon, BSBA marketing and behavioral economics ‘28, initially entered Drexel as a sport business major and still has interest in that field since changing majors. Currently working in a co-op position with Drexel’s University Marketing and Communications team, supporting events including Admitted Students Day and Commencement, she sees a lot of similarities between her current role and early-career ones at the Yankees and other professional-sports franchises.

“I feel like event days are like game days: setting up, responding to things that come up, cleaning up afterward, reflecting on the experience and resetting for the next one,” she says. “It’s an area that requires a lot of energy and motivation, so it was refreshing to hear the speakers say ‘remember the why,’ even for those working behind the scenes.”

After a throughout introduction to the team’s operations, the students took in an afternoon game against the Athletics with great views courtesy of a team suite.

“We’re hopeful that this visit marks the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the organization and that it can become an annual opportunity for our students,” says Dave Prisco, director of the Center for Career Readiness.
